ESA Program Guide

NYBL Registration with ESA Program

ESA funds can be used for NYBL registration, jerseys, and equipment costs. Created by a parent!

  • Note that this guide assumes that you have already signed up for ESA. There are two methods for payment: either use an ESA debit card, or pay on your own and get reimbursement from ESA.

 Registering with NYBL:

If you have more than one child in the ESA program, the most important thing you need to know is that you register each child separately.

  1. On the NYBL site (youthbofferleague.org), sign up as you normally would to join a team.
  2. When you are asked for the billing person’s name, be sure to put the child’s name if you are using an ESA debit card. Otherwise, the autogenerated receipt will have the parent’s name as the person billed.
  3. When you register, you will automatically recevie an email receipt/invoice for the transaction. Save this to submit to ESA.
  4. You will be asked if you want a copy of the NYBL curriculum, before signing the waiver. You will need the curriculum as part of the documentation ESA requires to justify the use of ESA funds. If you want the child’s name and ESA account # on the curriculum, enter those where the NYBL site asks for them. Otherwise you’ll get a curriculum with those fields left blank. Save the curriculum to submit to ESA with your receipt.

Submitting NYBL Registration Receipt (ESA Debit Card):

  1. If you used the ESA debit card, on ESA’s ClassWallet site, under “Action Required,” it should say that a receipt is missing for the transaction. Click “Upload a Receipt.”
  2. Under Category Codes, choose “Supplemental Materials (documentation needed).”
  3. Under Notes, type “NYBL boffer fencing league and online course.”
  4. Where it says “Drag your receipts or other documentation here to upload or click browse,” find the invoice you received from NYBL and upload it. Then also upload the NYBL curriculum.
  5. Be sure to click Save.

    Submitting NYBL Registration Receipt (Reimbursement):

    1. If you used your own debit or credit card, on ESA’s ClassWallet site, under “Reimbursements,” click “Start a New Reimbursement.”
    2. Add details to your receipt: Store name is National Youth Boffer League. Enter the amount.
    3. Where it says “Drag your receipts or other documentation here to upload or click browse,” find the invoice you received from NYBL and upload it. Then also upload the NYBL curriculum.
    4. Choose which purse the funds will come from on the next screen. Choose Arizona — ESA.
    5. Under expense category, choose “Supplemental Materials (documentation needed).”
    6. Under Comments (Optional), type “NYBL boffer fencing league and online course.”
    7. Be sure to Complete the submission.

Buying Equipment:

If you have more than one child in the ESA program, shop for each child separately.

On the Age of Foam site (ageoffoam.com), where it says “Shop by Sport,” choose the NYBL logo. It will take you to a product screen where you’ll see a variety of shields and swords. Note that other sites, such as gorgtech.com and forgedfoam.com also sell swords and shields that meet NYBL standards. You can adapt these instructions to their sites.

  1.  Add to your cart a punch or strap shield for the child. Note: 24” is the max diameter allowed for ages 7-13; shield diameters up to 27” are allowed for ages 14 and up.
  2.  Add to your cart an ultralight sword for the child. Note: 34” is a great length for older children, but is a bit long for younger ones. For someone 13 and under, go for a 30” or 32” boffer.
  3. Pay with the child’s name as the purchaser, and the same address you have on file with ESA. Use the child’s ESA debit card (ignore the message that says the payer must be 18). Or use your own card if you are going to submit the receipt for reimbursement.
  4. Be sure to give the ESA parent’s phone number and email address with the other billing info. A receipt will be emailed to you automatically.

 Submitting Equipment Receipt:

  1. Use the same steps that you used for submitting your registration receipt.
